Michael's Last Stand

Were those really Michael's last words to Pam? Is no one else skeptical but me?

Okay, VH1......You Had Your Chance......

Every time VH1 shows its 100 Greatest Artists of All Time , E-Roc and I agree, disagree, argue, concur, throw our hands up in disgust, cheer......and inevitably have a great evening of TV while we discuss our picks and pans. We rarely disagree on the artists included on the list, but we have a lot of scrutiny for where they were placed on the list. But with musical tastes as varied and interesting as ours, we always think about what our list would include. And while E-Roc will probably never get around to it in this lifetime (gotta love a procrastinator) I thought I would at least take a stab at mine. I tried to think about the artists I loved based on: influence to artists that followed (for instance, without Woody Guthrie you probably wouldn't have Bob Dylan and without Bob you might not have Velvet Underground and so on and so on), creativity and uniqueness , particular virtuosity to songwriting or a specific instrument, and just generally what Becky finds pleasing. Thi...

What Would Vito Corleone Do?

Yes, I watched Mob Wives on Sunday night. Yes, I'm ashamed of myself. Yes, I will probably watch when it is on again. I will go sit in my room and think about what I've done now....

Spring Bookshelf

I don't know if I should feel sorry for, glad she recovered or just annoyed at Mackenzie Phillips. I have a definite empathy for recovered addicts and anyone who's been abused, but ones who milk it for attention and fame.....and who also love to name-drop just a little too much.....I'm not sure. But to be fair, with all the press she did on this book, I knew what I was getting into. Will make you miss George Carlin. Will make you wish your significant other wrote you little notes. Will make you feel a little like you're invading someone's privacy and wonder why Sally Wade would share all this. Still a good book. On another note, I recently tried to read Cormac McCarthy's Child of God and had to give it up. And just for the record, a book has to be really bad for me to just stop reading it.....I recently did the same with John Irving's Until I Find You . And it's weird because I usually enjoy everything by these two authors. What can I say? If I...

Pollenation Station

Finally! A Day of Rest.........

My busy weekend in 3 phrases: ~HOM AIDS Walk~ ~A Day Spent with My Big Sis~ ~Womenless Beauty Pagent~ I hate that this pic is so blurry, but honestly, I think it makes the guys look better.

I Live Above Rachel and Monica....Apparently

On Monday evening, I had a brief respite of sitting on my deck in the late afternoon. I've had a few rough weeks, so this little reverie with my book and wine was a real treat. I sat there listening to the 20-something girls that live below me talking about the men (boys) in their lives. The late afternoon sun, sounds of the pool being filled, my sweet wine and the chatter of young girls......it was quite a vacation from life for a moment. I need to go out there more often!

The Poisonwood Bible

In my continuous quest to catch up on books I should have read about 10 years ago, I managed to finish The Poisonwood Bible this weekend. And pretty much every time I finish a really good novel that ties into true historical events, I have to go back and do some nonfiction reading on the subject. This time it will be about The Congo, missionaries to Africa and the Eisenhower Administration of 1959-60. There is so much to love about this book, and just like usual, I am kicking myself for not reading it when I heard everyone else talking about it. One of the things I loved best was the story being told from 5 points of view: the mother and the 4 daughters. It's not hard to see even from the very beginning that this all isn't going to turn out well, but I still don't want to ruin it for anyone who is as behind on their reading as me. But I think if there's one thing I took away from this book, it's this....probably one of my favorite lines from any book ever: "...

Autism Awareness Part II

Today is Autism Awareness Day . I have been thinking a lot lately about my relationship to Little Boy compared to what other parents have with their kids. This is a very dangerous and slippery slope for parents of kids with special needs. There are a lot of things to envy of parents with typical kids. They show you all the things you miss out on with your own child. I have made my peace with a good bit of that, but I have realized lately one particular thing I would love to have with Little Boy: a conversation. Don't get me wrong.....I am SO glad that Little Boy is verbal. I am very aware of the many parents of AU kids who would just love to hear their kids speak......just once. But sometimes I long for having a true conversation with Little Boy......not just a back and forth repeating of phrases between him and me. I would love to ask him questions and get true responses from him. I would love to really be able to teach him lessons and share things through talking and not ju...
