Becky's Greatest Hits Vol. II

Since this film had my dream-90's man, Ethan Hawke , and a little bit of science fiction for my real-life man, E-Roc, I felt certain it would be a winner.  The synopsis made me think this would be a little like Looper , which E-Roc and I both loved, so I thought we'd like this. And we did. This film is a complete mind-bender.  I have thought about hardly anything since.  In a way, I really want to figure it all out but I also want to keep the confusion, if that makes sense.  I can't really describe it and I don't want to give any of it away, so I think I can best describe it in this mash-up: Looper meets Inception meets The Matrix meets X-Files meets Cloud Atlas  with a dash of Caitlyn Jenner and old episodes of The Twillight Zone . Confusing?  You bet.  But so worth it. (And on a side note, I began thinking about how much I would love to see a movie starring my three favorite Hollywood dream men: Ethan Hawke, Matt McConaugh...

In the lead-up to Ethan Hawke's new film, Juliet, Naked , I am spending my time lately on all things Ethan.  It's not hard, you know.  Long-time readers know he is one of my all-time fave mans ! Spent last night watching Born to Be Blue , a biopic about jazz trumpeter, Chet Baker .  It was such a beautiful and heart-breaking film.  The vulnerability of Ethan and costar, Carmen Ejogo , is just lovely.  And of course the story of Baker himself is phenomenal.  Almost makes me want to listen to jazz.  Almost. My hubs even bought the GQ mag that has a feature on Ethan right now for light reading on a work trip I have this week.  I just have to deal with Kylie's rumpus on the front.  (not a fan, sorry) Aaaaand, I don't even want to hear that Ethan simply clicks "like" on all his comments or has his assistant doing it for him when I commented on a scene from Boyhood he broke down a few weeks back.  The fact ...

I've always felt certain that if I ever met Richard Linklater I would probably fall instantly in love with him.  This film cemented that notion. Not only is it a cinematic wonder in featuring all the same actors over a 12 year period, it touches on so many people, things and events that mean something to me: ~Ethan Hawke rocking out to Wilco with this kid ~Mason talking about his love of Vonnegut while everyone else is reading Twilight ~A living room sing-a-long to Wish You Were Here ~Mason describing his reasons for deleting his Facebook page ~Ethan Hawke describing the importance of The Beatles both singularly and as a group, falling in love, timing, contraception, and voting for Obama all the while driving an American classic muscle car ~Patricia Arquette being so smart in life and so dumb at love but still an awesome mom ~And reliving the decades......no matter which ones......Linklater knows how to do that Luckily, my husband understands my love of Lin...

My husband and I realized last night that we usually go and see ONE MOVIE per year in an acutal theatre and it's almost always in the summertime.  So seeing this one on Labor Day barely made the cut! If there is a way for me to stop loving my 90's crush Ethan Hawke , then you JUST TELL ME HOW!  This film was so meta for me in so many ways.....the long lost loves of the 90's, the grown-up Troy Dyer references , and the fact that Ethan even sounds likes Jeff Tweedy when he sings......coincidence?  That fact that he sounds like the singer of one of his favorite bands that is also my favorite band?   I DON'T THINK SO!!!! Seriously, even with some heavy themes, the adaptation of the Nick Hornby novel  (another book pick here ) is light and funny and just the way to cap off the summer.  Especially with the adorable Rose Byrne.  I also really need to find Blaze on a screen somewhere, so I can just fan girl a little bit more with my Eth...

Set up like a bit of a quirky screwball rom-com, this little indie flick actually delves into the complexities of divorce, blended families and complicated romantic choices.  It's a little strange for me to see my dream man, Ethan Hawke , in a role in which he's not that loveable, but I guess we can't win 'em all.  Besides Ethan this film has a stellar cast and a 6 degrees of separation that I can't deny: written and directed by Rebecca Miller who is also married to Daniel Day-Lewis .  I'm glad I have a husband that understands me when I tell him the loooong intricate story of how Rebecca, Daniel and Ethan all hang out together and how they actually call her "Becky" IRL.  On a totally unrelated note, given the number of times I've posted on Ethan and Daniel I feel like it's long past due that one of them should give me a call!!!!!  

Since I'm probably the biggest and one of the few Wilco fans I know, I shocked even myself when I was on the fence about reading this memoir. As a kid, I could tell you the names of all the guys in every band I loved and probably even where they were from and their birthdays. But as an adult, I've often tried to distance myself from knowing too much about the artists whose work I really enjoy.  And I have been let down a time or two learning things about folks who I thought were pretty awesome.  I guess I shouldn't be so judgmental, but hey......you either like somebody or you don't. All I can say is after finishing this book in less than 2 days right at the busy Christmas season, I would have kicked myself if I missed out on it and then learned later what I missed out on.  Make sense?  Not really? Good. Then I'm writing this like a Jeff Tweedy book. First off, I have to put this out there.....Jeff writes like a real person.  He writes like he is talking...
