No Anger Control Opens for CJ Ramone Tonight at The Rabbit Hole

Memorial Day 2016

The Unknown Soldier The Doors 1968 (protest song released during the height of the Vietnam War)   Wait until the war is over And we're both a little older The unknown soldier Breakfast where the news is read Television children fed Unborn living, living, dead Bullet strikes the helmet's head And it's all over For the unknown soldier It's all over For the unknown soldier   Make a grave for the unknown soldier Nestled in your hollow shoulder The unknown soldier Breakfast where the news is read Television children fed Bullet strikes the helmet's head And, it's all over The war is over It's all over The war is over Well, all over, baby All over, baby Oh, over, yeah All over, baby Wooooo, hah-hah All over   (This blog honors all soldiers and veterans but does not celebrate war.  This song, to me, is as relevant today as it was nearly 50 years ago when it was written.)

The Doors: Twentieth Century Fox

What Do You Do When Your Childhood Betrays You?

Us Generation Xers have been having a rough time lately.  The rock stars of our youth are dying at alarmingly young ages.  We have turned or are about to turn 40.  And the icons of our childhoods are being revealed to be bad people.  Really bad people.  Now I want to say right up front that this post isn't setting out in any way to side with the guilty.  It's also not making light of the atrocious abuses that many victims have faced.  When those students at Penn State started protesting after the Sandusky revelations and Joe Paterno termination, I was pretty sickened.  A beloved sports team is not worth more than the lives and innocence of abused boys. My question is: what do we do with the memories? Recently I had an earworm of the theme song for Fat Albert in my head.  You know how it goes, Xers.  It's the "nah, nah, nah, gonna have a good time.....hey, hey, hey!"  I posted it on Facebook, you know as a funny status, and got a few cute comments

Fave Lyrics: Bob Dylan Edition

(It's hard to list all the Bob Dylan songs and lyrics that I love, but here for Bob's 75th birthday I'm gonna give you at least a few .  And I would encourage you to open your mind and heart to the genius of Bob Dylan.  I'll be honest, his voice is not my favorite of all my favorite artists.  But his poetry has no match.) "How does it feel, how does it feel? To be on your own, with no direction home Like a complete unknown, like a rolling stone." "Oh, me oh my, love that country pie." "Not a word was spoke between us, there was little risk involved Everything up to that point had been left unresolved Try imagining a place where it's always safe and warm Come in, she said I'll give ya shelter from the storm." "Remember that murder that happened in a bar ?" "Remember you said you saw the getaway car?" "You think you'd like to play ball with the law ?" "Think it might

Cute Dude Tuesday: The Best of Jon Hamm

(Brought to you by a quiet but firm fan base. You know who you are.) There's lots of pics of Jon walking or simply standing in public.  Not sure why. Oh, wait. I think I know. Don't you judge me! This view has its own tag and practically its own zip code! Jon, all I can say is, do you thang, man. There is always room on this blog for you. And your, um, pants.

I'm a big re-reader of "comfort books".  It is as pleasant as re-watching old movies again and again or listening to music you've loved for years.  I don't know why some find it odd! This is probably the reason I own so many books and have a hard time letting them go.....why would I ever? Here are some fave comfort books I'll loan out to you. (but you better be damn sure to return them....I know where you live!)
